The Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton New Life Center at the Seton Medical Center campus is a comprehensive perinatal service for women covered under MediCal, especially caring for young mothers. Your baby's father is always encouraged to participate in all aspects of the program as well. It is emphasized that women begin their prenatal care early in their pregnancy to enhance the possibilities that a healthy outcome would occur.
In addition to providing medical referrals to obstetricians, this unique program provides quality perinatal education on a wide variety of topics, including: fetal development, nutrition and food selection, exercise information, breast health, emotional well-being, sexually transmitted diseases, preparation for birth, breastfeeding, bottle-feeding and bathing baby.
A health educator, dietitian, and/or counselor provide individualized attention to each woman. Home visits can be arranged through community health workers that serve as the liaison between the Prenatal to Three Program of San Mateo County and our program at Seton. The Prenatal to Three Program of San Mateo County assists low-income women with access to certain resources and counseling as needed.
Our goal for The Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton New Life Center is to provide education in an effort to decrease the incidence of low birthweight; improve the outcome of every pregnancy; give every baby a healthy start in life; and lower health care costs by preventing catastrophic and chronic illness in infants and children.
One of the greatest strengths of this particular program is that it maintains the warm, caring and spiritually minded environment that supports the total family experience for even some of the most underserved new mothers in our service area. Caring is something we pride ourselves in because we believe that Caring is Powerful Medicine. We understand that your decision to have a child changes your life profoundly, and that your infant's care, nurturing and well-being are of utmost concern to you. At Seton Medical Center, we are committed to helping you with this major life change and taking special care of your new baby. This is a tradition we've seen at work since 1893, when our founders, the Daughters of Charity of St. Vincent de Paul, began caring for Bay Area mothers and children.
