Living Well with Asthma for Adults and Kids

Free one-hour asthma education class is held every two months at Seton Medical Center.

Class content includes:

• Overview of asthma – asthma anatomy and physiology, signs and symptoms
• Environmental controls
• Asthma triggers and how to avoid, eliminate, and control them
• Asthma medications, safety guidelines, relief vs. controller medications
• Correct use of inhalers and spacers
• Correct use of peak flow meter and monitoring to determine appropriate treatment
• Use of written guidelines for medications and management of acute episodes
• Indications for emergency care
• Psychosocial aspects of asthma
• Relaxation and breathing techniques to control or reduce asthma symptoms
• Working with school personnel
• Exercise guidelines
• Community resources
