At Seton’s Cancer Care Center, we offer comprehensive screening, diagnostic, treatment and supportive services for patients in the comfort and convenience of their own community. Our expert physicians and staff work as a multidisciplinary team, using state-of-the-art technology combined with patient/family centered treatment planning to provide the best possible outcome for patients with many different types of cancer. Our Cancer Care Center is a living demonstration of our commitment to treating the whole person: body, mind and spirit.

Cancer Screening Services

High quality health care includes timely and reliable screening for abnormalities that could identify pre-cancerous conditions or cancer at its earliest stages when it has the highest potential for cure.

  • Our Breast Health Center is part of Seton’s century-long tradition of concern for women’s health. Seton’s Breast Health Center provides the latest in digital screening and diagnostic mammographic and ultrasound imaging. The Center’s Breast Health Nurse Coordinator provides valuable education and resource coordination for Breast Health Center clients.
  • Seton’s Gastroenterology Services provide multiple diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopic services including upper endoscopy, small bowel enteroscopy, ERCP (endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreaticogram), flexible sigmoidoscopy, and colonoscopy. Precancerous and cancerous lesions may be biopsied and even potentially removed at the time of the procedure.
  • Should abnormalities be identified, a wide range of diagnostic services is available to provide the information that you and your doctor will need for planning the next steps in your care.

Diagnostic Services

When you come to Seton Medical Center for cancer-related diagnostic services, we take extra care to make sure you are comfortable and have an opportunity to ask any questions you have about your procedure.

At Seton, we offer an extensive array of advanced laboratory, pathology and imaging services.

  • The Radiology Department provides the latest in MRI (Magnetic Resonance Imaging), digital radiography and ultrasound imaging to help pinpoint and analyze potential cancer-related conditions throughout the body.
  • Seton’s Nuclear Medicine Department offers a full range of diagnostic services, including PET/CT (Positron Emission Tomography integrated with CT images) and scans of the bones, liver and thyroid.
  • In our Clinical Lab and Pathology Department, our fully certified and licensed staff uses advanced technology to perform procedures for hematology, coagulation, chemistry, microbiology, cytology, histology and both immunohistochemical and anatomical pathology.
  • The Breast Health Center offers an additional range of services, such as diagnostic digital mammography using CAD (Computer Assisted Detection), ultrasound guided biopsy as well as state of the art stereotactic breast biopsy capability, which is less invasive and time-consuming than a surgical biopsy.

Consultative Services

As a Community Cancer Program that is accredited by the American College of Surgeons’ Commission on Cancer, our multidisciplinary team members not only provide excellent patient-centered care, but they also consult with their professional colleagues on a regular basis via weekly tumor boards and breast panels. This allows several doctors who are experts in different specialties to review and discuss a patient’s medical condition and treatment options. A tumor board review may include that of a medical oncologist (who provides cancer treatment with drugs), a surgical oncologist (who provides cancer treatment with surgery), and a radiation oncologist (who provides cancer treatment with radiation in addition to further reviews of imaging and pathology).

Treatment Services

Frequently cancer treatment requires a combination of different therapies such as surgery, chemotherapy and/or radiation therapy to effectively cure or control the disease, or sometimes a single therapy type may be recommended. Seton provides a wide range of therapy options to give patients their very best chance to meet the challenges of a cancer diagnosis.

  • Surgery is often a first step in cancer therapy. Seton has experienced medical staff that provide surgical services for a diverse range of cancer diagnoses. For prostate and gynecological tumors, our surgeons can choose to use our DaVinci Robotic Surgical Technology to provide minimally invasive procedures that enhance healing time and reduce the impact on surrounding tissues. Stereotactic technology with computer navigation and CUSA ultrasonic tissue ablation is available for neurological procedures.
  • The physicians in Seton’s Interventional Radiology Department provide therapies such as radio frequency ablation for lung and liver cancers, chemo embolization for liver cancers and pleurodesis to treat pleural effusions (fluid around the lungs) that can be caused by a number of different cancers.
  • In many instances, radiation therapy is an important component of cancer treatment and cure. A full-service radiation oncology facility is an integral part of our Cancer Care Center. Radiation therapy uses advanced treatment equipment and computerized planning systems to provide this highly effective treatment. Seton’s Radiation Oncology program includes two state-of-the-art LINAC linear accelerators that treat many types of diseases. With our sophisticated 3D treatment planning software and intensity-modulated radiation therapy (IMRT) we can provide high-precision radiotherapy that utilizes computer-controlled linear accelerators to deliver precise radiation doses to a malignant tumor or specific areas within the tumor. IMRT allows for the radiation dose to conform more precisely to the three-dimensional (3-D) shape of the tumor by modulating—or controlling—the intensity of the radiation beam. This leading-edge technology is extremely effective in destroying tumor cells while preserving surrounding normal tissue.
  • Medical oncologists provide systemic therapy and when needed, aggressive treatment for patients with a cancer diagnosis. Sometimes these therapies include management of the disease symptoms—and often they include the use of chemotherapy. Our comfortable and  patient-centered Outpatient Infusion Unit, staffed by registered nurses who are certified in chemotherapy, provides a wide range of infusional therapies in addition to chemotherapy that help to support patients through their treatment experiences. When inpatient care is required, our 30-bed Inpatient Oncology Unit is designed and staffed by chemotherapy-certified nurses to meet the unique needs of cancer patients and their families.
